Why am I not able to plan my blog posts in advance?
When I started writing my blog, I read all the articles and posts on the topic. How to choose a title, write an outline, conduct research, what makes a good blog post, and what are the 5-10-15 points that can ruin the writing.
Widely accepted view is that it is worth creating an excel spreadsheet as a content planner. This spreadsheet can contain post topics based on previous research for up to a quarter in advance.
Despite being a huge list maker, planning blog posts in this way does not work for me. No matter how hard I try to plan ahead, my writing process is more instinctive, and planning in advance goes against this natural flow.
My method is not professional at all; rather, it is an exciting alternative that relies much more on intuition, in fact, it feels a bit like giving up a bit of my own control every time.
It starts with some topic ideas that come up either due to a recent event or a defining conversation. I take these ideas to the nature. I am especially attracted to larger bodies of water. The proximity of rivers, lakes, or the sea instantly put me in an inspired state.
I take a long walk while allowing nature in and immersing myself in its magnificence. And while I surrender to this experience, a fragment of text appears in me. I cannot fully recall the process of writing, even an hour and a half seems like minutes, but the feeling is captivating. It is an elevated state, experiencing the ease of free creation, where a sense of gratitude mixes with a kind of inner excitement. And the sense of wonder when the text outline comes together by the end of the walk.
Naturally, my writings are not perfect, they need to be edited, but due to this method they speak in my voice.
The four steps of the intuitive method are:
1. Identify the activities that put you in a flow state or trigger your creativity. This could be anything from swimming to cooking, dancing, listening to music, or meditation.
2. Allow yourself to be open to spontaneous ideas and inspirations as they come. Listen to your intuition and trust that your creativity will guide you.
3. Whenever an idea or fragment of a post comes to you, jot it down immediately to capture the essence of the moment.
4. Take some time after your creative activity to reflect and refine on the ideas you have captured.
If you are also uncertain about planning your writings in advance; what are those activities that get you in the sense of flow?
Everyone's creative process is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another, but experimenting with different methods and finding what puts you in an inspired state could be a great way in creating your own authentic content.
